BUSINESS PLAN PROPOSAL ASSIGNMENT

As you know, a major part of your final class grade will be determined by your business plan.  You are free to work on your project individually or with one partner.  All projects must be approved by me.

For every plan project (individual or group), I expect to receive a half page summary outlining the scope of the business.  This proposal should clearly identify the business concept (product or service) and briefly discuss why it is a good opportunity to pursue.  The purpose of this assignment is to give a clear picture of the business.

I would like to see all projects be able to be implemented with no more than $1 million in startup capital; however, this is not a strict requirement.

The proposal should be in paragraph form, typed and double-spaced.  You should be able to complete this assignment in a half page to a page.  The proposal is due by the beginning of class on Monday, February 15, 2010.  You are encouraged to talk to me and/or turn in the assignment prior to the 15th.  Feel free to discuss your thoughts with me prior to writing up your proposal.

If you are working with a partner, the group should submit only one copy of the proposal; however, both members of the group must sign the copy.  I keep these proposals and you will not receive a formal grade on the proposal; however, you cannot turn in a final business plan without an approved proposal.  I will discuss any issues of concern I may have with students prior to the first graded assignment.  If you change your business plan idea in the middle of the semester you must also have that change approved.

One final note, if you are working with a partner and in the middle of the semester you decide to split your group, you and your partner must write about businesses in two different industries.  You cannot both turn in plans in the same industry.  It will be up to you to decide who will continue with the plan you have started – or you could both work on two totally different businesses from the one you started with.
